I have heard (from reliable sources) that at times the town has approved hundreds (or more) of homes with 30 seconds of deliberations. Something's gotta give. In this case it was infrastructure. While it understandably doesn't make sense to build infrastracture before people move into the town (doing so would burden existing residents), it also does not make sense to wait for people to move into a community before infrastructure projects start. For starters, before approving a large housing project the town should :-

1. Make sure that road projects will start soon after the builder breaks the ground. This will ensure money from developer fees flows quickly to develop infrastructure.
2. Approve schools etc on the first phase. In HVE it wasn't until the 5th phase
3. Coordinate with school boards, hospitals and other agencies
4. Extending the previous item, really really campaign the region and the Province for funding

I agree that we need things to do for our kids as this town grows. With a nine year old and a one year old child, I wonder what theyll be doing to pass the time when they are old enough to go out on their own.

While having an arts & entertainment centre would be nice, I have questions as to its importance right now. We are still experiencing unprecedented growth in town and infrastructure should be the number one priority and when its begins to level out, then looking at something of this nature.

The problem is with all this growth people want everything right away but it does take time and items need to be priortized.

Here's hoping that we can continue to expand the facilities for our kids, parents, and families in general, to at least keep up with the population growth. Growing up in Milton, there was never much to do, so we got into petty mischief, nothing illegal, but certainly not the most rewarding things we would have done, had we had the opportunity to do better things.
