2010_0305yearsnew110018Resident of the Harrison Neighbourhood, Zeeshan Hamid was elected as Milton’s Town Councillor on October 25th, 2010 with almost 62% of votes cast.  He lives near Scott Blvd, south of Derry Road, with his three children.  An avid blogger (see his parenting blog: Why My Hair Dont Grow No More) and amateur photographer, he is also a past small business owner that he sold to focus on his council duties.

After graduating from the University of Waterloo in 2002 with a Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science degree, Hamid moved to Seattle to work for Microsoft Corporation’s Windows Mobile division. He lived in four very different suburbs of Seattle, namely Kirkland, Redmond, Bellevue and Mill Creek.  Itching to move back home, Hamid joined a Microsoft Healthcare start-up in Washington, DC.  He had residences in Washington, DC; Springfield, VA and Gaithersburg, MD.  Still finding DC too far from home, he finally moved back and settled in Milton with his three children. He still works for Microsoft.

His experience of living in such a range of different municipalities gave  him appreciation for the importance of proper up-front urban design and planning.  He envisions turning Milton into a viable Urban Village, characterized by strong urban design, a high level of self-containment (people live, work and play in the same area), use of alternate transportation (transit, walking, biking) and a strong community attachment.

Before being elected to the Council, Hamid served in the Milton Transit Advisory Committee and Halton’s Inter-Municipal Committee on Sustainability.  His passion for the community encouraged him to move beyond representation in committees and into municipal politics.  As a councillor he serves on the following committees:

  • Administration & Planning Standing Committee
  • Co-Chair, Milton Economic Development Advisory Committee (MEDAC)
  • Town of Milton Interview Committee
  • Milton Transit Advisory Committee
  • Inter-Municipal Committee on Sustainability
